With the signing of the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA) into law in 2003, the field of pharmacy was forever changed as Medication Therapy Management entered the mainstream. This emerging part of the pharmacy profession aims to optimize the use of medication and to reduce the risk of negative side effects through patient consultation. Under the new policies, pharmacists are now able to be compensated for their patient consulting services.
For practicing pharmacists, this field is an exciting opportunity to participate at a higher level in patient care, as well as to participate in lowering health care costs overall for all parties involved. Many certification programs are available, but only the University of Florida offers a specialized master’s of science degree program in this growing field, giving students the necessary clinical and communication skills to emerge as leaders in MTM.

It’s time to enroll in the University of Florida’s Medication Therapy Management master’s degree. This program is designed to help busy professional pharmacists specialize in a new and growing field and advance their careers while continuing to work.
